A great result was recently secured by our team at Stockport’s Planning Committee for the upwards extension of 239-245 London Road to provide 12 new apartments with unanimous approval granted by Councillors. This builds upon our earlier prior-approval that we secured at the same site for the (Class MA) conversion of vacant commercial floorspace to 14 apartments.
Critically, issues regarding transport, noise and the lawful use of the property were established at this early stage to pave the way for a successful full application that allows the full development value of the site to be realised with relatively little risk.
This means…
✅ A total of 26 new apartments will be provided for the local community in a sustainable District Centre location;
✅ All apartments will be built within the footprint of an under-utilised building on a previously developed site (with commercial uses retained at ground floor);
✅ The new taller building will represent a positive addition to the street scene;
✅ New residents will bring increased revenue and support to nearby shops and services within the District Centre.
Upwards extension developments help to reduce pressure to build in less sustainable locations and work particularly well on highly accessible sites such as these. A great result all round!
